Day 1 - Arrival Day Havana

Welcome to the Cuba Bella Tour! Whether you are already in Havana or arriving today, this is the day you’ll meet your specialized tour guide. Once at the guesthouse, check for the Welcome Note we left for you with specific instructions about the welcome meeting we’ll have this first evening. Until then, enjoy your free time in Havana! The transfer from the airport to the casa particular in Havana is NOT included with the purchase of this trip. If you need transfer on arrival, please contact our Travel Consultants with your flights details and we will add it to the itinerary.

Day 2 – Havana

We’ll begin with a two-hour city tour that gives you a panoramic overview of Old Havana’s colonial plazas. Get ready for picture-perfect moments gazing at the city’s multi-colored architecture. Afternoon is free to discover Cuba’s eclectic capital city.

Day 3 – Viñales

Today we’ll say See you soon! to Havana and venture west to Viñales, a Unesco-listed natural landscape that surrounds a culturally rich, small village. On the way, we’ll visit Las Terrazas community, a self-sustainable eco-friendly town in the heart of Unesco-listed Sierra del Rosario (lunch included). The tour leader will help you dust off your Spanish with a quick informal lesson while on the road.

Day 4 - Viñales

Indulge yourself with Viñales’ rural, laid-back charm – or you might rather prefer to make the most out of the day and switch between horseback riding, birdwatching Cuban hummingbirds, trekking, or visiting tobacco farms. You could also consider exploring the valley of mogotes (rounded limestone cliffs) including a cycling and zipline tour (all optional activities). Nightlife is very active here too so get comfy in your dancing shoes!

Day 5 – Cienfuegos via Bay of Pigs

Today’s on the road again for a long-day trip to the Bay of Pigs, home of unspoiled beaches, superb diving and one of the Cold War’s most important historical sites. Ask your tour leader about the botched CIA-sponsored invasion that took place here in 1961. You’ll arrive to Cienfuegos in time for a stroll around the Unesco World Heritage Site Parque Jose Martí. We’ve also included a guided tour to Palacio de Valle, an eclectically styled palace combining mudéjar ornamentation, Gothic vestibules, Imperial-style ceilings, and a Louis XVI-inspired music room. Sunsets from atop the tower are amazing!

Day 6 – Trinidad

Enjoy some free time this morning before we head eastward to Trinidad – it’s less than two hours to get there. As your tour leader will explain in the included orientation walk, this is one of Cuba’s most beautiful colonial cities. Wander its cobbled streets, admiring the iconic architecture: pastel-coloured buildings with wrought-iron grille windows and red ceramic tile roof-tops. Trinidad’s town centre attracts most of the attention, especially around the picturesque Plaza Mayor. The Iglesia de la Santísima Trinidad (or Parroquial Mayor) sits on one of the corners of the plaza (all optional activities).

Day 7 – Camaguey

Today we’ll continue eastwards to Camaguey, which boasts a raft of beautiful historic buildings at every turn. Camaguey’s mazy street plan, typical of some old cities, offers visitors only one exit. The intricate city layout was designed to prevent pirates from making a quick scape from the city after a raid. Another iconic feature of the city is the tinajones, large ceramic vessels that were used to collect rainwater from the roofs. They are a symbol of old Camaguey and used as decoration all over the city. Take a bicitaxi around town or relax at one of the colonial plazas (all optional activities) – it’s been a week now and you’re only beginning to see the real Cuba!

Day 8 – Santiago de Cuba via Bayamo

We’ll hit the road early today to make a visit to Bayamo, known as the cradle of Cubans identity, considering that pro-independence struggles started around here, back in 1868. Bayamo is synonym with warm people and horse-drawn carriages all around. Enjoy a guided tour around town before heading eastwards to Santiago de Cuba.

Day 9 - Santiago de Cuba

Today starts with a three-hour guided tour of Santiago city, visiting El Morro Castle, the Ifigenia cemetery and the Moncada barracks. You’ll soon realize why Cuba’s second city is proudly Afro-Cuban, strongly socialist, and never deeply embedded in the colonial culture. Known as the capital of the Caribbean, Santiago mixes Spanish, Haitian, Jamaican and West African genes and, as you might expect, its dance traditions are second to none in the island. Afternoon is free for extra activities. Ask your guide for references on places to go eating, dancing, or relaxing.

Day 10 - Baracoa

One of our all-time favourite road trips in Cuba, today’s journey takes you to Baracoa, winding the southern coast of Santiago and Guantánamo. Arid lands and dry vegetation meet the bluest ocean on rocky cliffs before the bus turns left to the road known as La Farola. Traversing the mountains of Sierra Maestra, La Farola offers a unique opportunity to photograph the Sierra’s verdant hills from its lookout point in La Herradura. Once in Baracoa and after you’ve settle down on your casa particular, take some time to explore the city centre and admire a culture that was isolated for so many years, giving it a strong life (an amazing local food!) of its own.

Day 11 - Baracoa

Enjoy a walking tour of Baracoa with your tour leader before planning the rest of your day at this region. Baracoa is Cuba’s first colonial village, founded in 1511 by the Spaniards. Packed with possibilities to go sightseeing and birdwatching, the city is also known for its rich culinary tradition, featuring coconut sauce, local cacao, and fresh seafood. If feeling more adventurous, ask your guide to suggest excursions to the nearby Unesco-listed National Park Cuchillas del Toa to explore caves and waterfalls (all optional activities).

Day 12 - Santiago de Cuba

On our way back to Santiago de Cuba today, we’ll make a stop at Cuba’s most respected and revered religious site: the National Basilica-Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre. The town surrounding the church is quite picturesque and you may find some spare time to mingle with locals. Later in the evening, let yourself loose in Santiago’s musical scene and dance the night out with the locals at Casa de la Trova or Casa de la Música (all optional activities).

Day 13 - Holguin

En-route to Holguin, our final day on the road includes a visit to the birthplace of Fidel and Raúl Castro, in Birán, which is also the resting place of their parents. Once in Holguín city, there will be time for a final panoramic tour of the city, including a tour to Loma de la Cruz. At night, the streets of Holguín pulsate with an upbeat energy – take the final photos of the Cuba Bella Tour before saying Adiós to Cuba.

Day 14 - Departure or Extension Day

Plan your hours to make the most out of them on this final day. If your flight leaves late and you want to explore a bit more, don’t hesitate to ask for help to your tour leader.
