Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a visit to the tranquil (and spectacularly beautiful!) Viñales Valley, where you’ll enjoy a unique array of activities and attractions, ranging from caves to cigars! Your tour guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Havana and take you 110 miles to Viñales, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with some of the most amazing landscapes in the world. The first stop on the 2-hour drive is the waterfalls and orchid gardens of Soroa, a Biosphere Reserve known as the ‘rainbow of Cuba’. Upon reaching Viñales, you’ll embark on a motorboat tour through the subterranean world of the ‘Indian Cave’, once used as shelter by the indigenous Guanahatabey people of Western Cuba and rediscovered in 1920. Take a stroll through the picturesque village of Viñales before visiting the Mural of Prehistory, painted on the side of a mountain by Cuban artist Leovigildo Gonzalez, a pupil of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. The next stop will be the ‘Palenque de los Cimarrones’, a secret hideaway used by runaway slaves in colonial times. You’ll have the opportunity to kick back and smoke a cigar at Casa del Veguero plantation, where you’ll learn about the art of tobacco farming and rolling. Enjoy a late lunch at a local restaurant with fresh, creole food, before returning to Havana.
