Separated by little more than 100 miles of water, both Miami and Cuba promise incredible nightlife, lively arts scenes, glorious year-round sunshine and vibrant Latin culture (70% of Miami's population in Hispanic). However, their opposed political systems and divergent histories make for stark differences and a interesting, exciting and enriching holiday combination. Blend Cuba’s colonial grandeur, cobbled streets and socialist slogans with Miami’s gleaming high-rises, sandy beaches and world-class shopping malls. Immerse yourself in the complicated history of the Revolution and wander Miami’s Little Havana, a neighbourhood of Cuban exiles. You'll return home with a deeper understanding of each destination along with some impressive salsa moves to show your friends.

Few cities in the Americas or the Caribbean boast the life and soul of the sultry showgirl that is Havana. To know Havana is love her – her buzzing street corners, where the bored and the busy-with-gossip congregate; her gorgeous colonial cityscape, her virtuoso musicians and dancers; her antiquated classic cars and her socialist slogans. Havana is at its busiest with tourism and private enterprise since 1959, with a new restaurant, shop, art project or hip private villa opening seemingly every week, regardless of announcements emanating out of the States. There’s never been a better time to join the party.

Day 2: Havana City Tour

Discover the delights of Havana with a professional guide. You will be picked up from your hotel and taken around the city in an air-conditioned coach. You will visit the huge 19th-century Cristobal Colon Cemetery before continuing Revolution Square where where Fidel Castro would give political speeches to over a million Cubans. You will travel through the neighbourhoods of Miramar and Vedado and cruise along the famous Malecón seafront. You will stop briefly for photos outside the iconic Capitol building before visiting Morro-Cabana Fortress, Paseo del Prado and Old Havana's four history-rich squares. You will wander along Obispo Street, home to one of Hemingway's favourite bars, Bodeguita del Medio.

Day 3: Full-Day Excursion to Viñales

You will be taken on a private tour for a fascinating introduction into rural life in Cuba. Following an 8:00 AM pick-up, your English-speaking guide will commence the 111-mile journey to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valle de Viñales. You will stop along the way at Soroa, admiring its waterfalls and famed orchid garden, and at a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the valley. Exuding verdant lushness and a laidback charm, Viñales is the perfect antidote to the intensity of Havana. You will have the opportunity to explore its unusual limestone landscape and experience its rich tobacco heritage.

Days 4-7: Discover Cuba's Colonial Gem, Trinidad

Trinidad is simply the most handsome town in Cuba, in one of the most idyllic provinces, Sancti Spiritus. Founded by Diego Velázquez in 1514, the giant village is wedged between the towering Escambray range and the shimmering coast. Trinidad grew wealthy on sugar in the 18th century, thus its museum-piece architecture dates mainly from this era. Walk a few streets and the village peters out into red earth, drooping palms and mountains. Drive five miles and you reach a perfect stretch of beach, Peninsula Ancon. At night, things come alive at the Casa de la Musica with its peerless, romantic setting at the hiatus of a grand stone stairwell.

Day 7 & 8 : Havana

You will return to Havana for the night before setting off for Miami, USA. Catch a show, feast on Cuban delicacies, or soak up the atmosphere of the Malecón.

Sun-kissed beaches, an iconic skyscape, burgeoning arts scene and wild nightlife: Miami is one of America’s, and the world’s, premier holiday spots. Art deco masterpieces, with tropical motifs and pastel shades, line the famed Ocean Drive which runs adjacent to white sand, swaying palm trees and deep blue waters of South Beach. Year-round sunshine lends the city to open-air parties where revellers can enjoy a wide variety of music influenced by the diverse makeup of Miami. Dance to Cuban rumba, Haitian zouk, Dominican bachata, Colombian vallenato, Brazilian samba, Jamaican soca and much more. When it’s time to unwind, head to the slower-paced North Beach, where an old-fashioned band shell and community park exude a quaint seaside charm.

Hotel Telégrafo

A historic and iconic hotel set in the heart of Havana, Hotel Telegrafo is one of Havana premium accommodation options. The hotel was first founded in 1860 and moved to its enviable position, right by the Capital Building and National Theatre, in 1888. Though recently modernised, traces of its colonial heritage remain including the original walls and a colourful mosaic. The hotel boasts 63 comfortable guestrooms, many of which enjoy fabulous views over the city, a restaurant, two cafes and a popular bar.

Casa Osmar y Alberto

Easily spotted thanks to its bright-pink exterior, Osmar y Alberto is one of Trinidad’s largest and finest "casas particulares". Its simple, comfortable rooms are dotted around a pretty courtyard full of greenery and woven hammocks for relaxing. The location is fantastic, with the main square just a short-walk away, though the excellent on-site restaurant and bar make a night-in a tempting option. The friendly owners can even organise private salsa dance lessons to be enjoyed on the grounds, best enjoyed before a round of Alberto’s cocktails!

Madero B&B

An oasis of calm in bustling Old Havana, Madero B and B is a luxury boutique property with staff that can’t seem to help but go the extra mile. The grand neoclassical building, featuring staggeringly-high ceilings and traditional Cuban tiled floors, was originally built in 1929 and lovingly restored by it owners in 2016 after a period of disrepair. It now plays host to six spacious and beautifully-furnished rooms, well equipped with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay along with colourful artwork and stylish extras. The highly-coveted junior suite boasts its own balcony overlooking the street’s eclectic architecture and vibrant going-ons. Guests can enjoy their breakfast on the private rooftop terrace, with views of the colonial quarter and Havana harbour. Many of the city’s top attractions sit just a stone’s-throw away.

Clinton South Beach

Just steps away from Miami’s legendary South Beach, the newly-renovated Clinton South Beach blends the warm and gracious service that typifies America’s south with the trendy elegance you’d expect from one of Miami’s premier hotels. The hotel plays host to two restaurants, an outdoor pool and a bar-lounge. The 88 stylish guestrooms are equipped with comfortable beds, flat-screen televisions, complimentary wi-fi and air-conditioning. As well as the beach, guests enjoy easy access to art galleries and shopping boutiques.
