Day 1 - Havana

International outbound flight to Havana. On arrival, you will head to the fast-track lounge to avoid queuing at immigration control and waiting for your luggage. You will be met by a Cuba Direct Representative at the airport. After a short meeting, you will be escorted to your transfer to the hotel. You will enjoy dinner at the hotel

Day 2 - Havana

After breakfast, it’s time to hop on your bike and start exploring Havana. You will ride along the city’s famous seawall, el Malécon, a favourite hangout amongst Habaneros before heading to Revolution Square, visiting Che Guevara’s Command Headquarters and exploring the 18th-century La Cabaña fortress, the third largest fortress complex in the Americas. Lunch in the city is followed by a visit to the eastern beaches. You will enjoy dinner at your hotel. Distance travelled: 74.5 mi (120 km) approx.

Day 3 - Havana - Cienfuegos - Trinidad

Once you’ve enjoyed breakfast at your hotel, it’s time to head to the beautiful bayside city of Cienfuegos, known as the “Pearl of the South”. You will explore the French-influenced city and eat lunch in one of its restaurants. In the afternoon, you will visit the Dolphinarium where you will have the great privilege of swimming with these playful creatures. When you’ve dried off, you’ll jump back on your bike and travel towards the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Trinidad. Trinidad is home to some of the finest and best-preserved colonial architecture in the Caribbean as well as many of Cuba’s best casas particulares (private guesthouses). You will check into your casa and enjoy dinner in Trinidad. Distance travelled: 205 mi (330 km) approx.

Day 4 - Trinidad - Santa Clara

You’ll enjoy breakfast at your guesthouse before heading out for a tour of historic Trinidad. Once you’ve got acquainted with the city, it’s time to leave for Santa Clara. If weather conditions allow, you will ride through the lush landscape of Topes de Collantes Nature Resere. Sitting smack bang in the centre of Cuba, Santa Clara has also played a central role in the country’s rich history. The city played host to some of the Cuban Revolution’s fiercest fighting, including the decisive final battle fought by Ernestro “Che” Guevara. After lunch, you will visit the site of this battle as well as the revolutionary’s final resting place, a museum-mausoleum complex. Accommodation is a hotel in the area. All that’s left to do today is to enjoy dinner. Distance travelled: 74.5 mi (120 km) approx.

Day 5 - Santa Clara - Cárdenas - Varadero

Once you’ve finished breakfast, you’ll set off for Cuba’s most popular beach resort, Varadero, stopping along the way for a tour of historic Cardenás. After lunch, you’ll travel to your all-inclusive hotel where you’ll spend the rest of the day enjoying the facilities. Dinner is to be enjoyed at your hotel. Distance travelled: 137 mi (220 km) approx.

Day 6 – Varadero – Matanzas – Havana

You’ll spend the first half of the day (including breakfast and lunch) at your resort. In the afternoon, you’ll head towards Havana, stopping for a tour of the city of Matanzas, boasting a great literary and musical heritage. You’ll stop at the impressive Bacunayagua bridge, the country’s highest, before continuing to your hotel in Havana. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner. Distance travelled: 99.4 mi (160 km) approx.

Day 7 - Havana - Home

Breakfast will be served at your hotel. You’ll have free time to enjoy the city before catching your flight back home.

Nine-Day Itinerary Option

This is our longer itinerary which includes a beach stay in Cayo Santa María half-way through the tour.

Day 1 - Havana

Day 2 - Havana

After breakfast, it’s time to hop on your bike and start exploring Havana. You will ride along the city’s famous seawall, el Malécon, a favourite hangout amongst Habaneros before heading to Revolution Square, visiting Che Guevara’s Command Headquarters and exploring the 18th-century La Cabaña fortress, the third largest fortress complex in the Americas. You will enjoy lunch in the city and dinner at your hotel. The evening is free for you to do as you please, take advantage of Havana’s world-famous music scene or rest up for tomorrow’s adventures. Distance travelled: 50 mi (80 km) approx.

Day 3 - Havana - Cienfuegos - Trinidad

Once you’ve enjoyed breakfast at your hotel, it’s time to set off for the beautiful bayside city of Cienfuegos, known as the “Pearl of the South”. You will visit Playa Girón along the way, site of America’s Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1961. You’ll have time to explore the graceful French-influenced city of Cienfuegos and enjoy lunch in one of its restaurants. In the afternoon, you’ll jump back on your bike and travel towards the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Trinidad. Trinidad is home to some of the finest and best-preserved colonial architecture in the Caribbean as well as many of Cuba’s best casas particulares (private guesthouses). You will check into your casa and enjoy dinner in Trinidad. Distance travelled: 236 mi (380 km) approx.

Day 4 - Trinidad - Cayo Santa María

You will enjoy the scenic drive to Cayo Santa María, a paradise island located off Cuba’s northern coast. The journey will take you through the lush landscape of Topes de Collantes nature reserve or Yaguajay (depending on the weather conditions) and along the spectacular causeway that connects Cayo Santa María to the Cuban mainland. You will enjoy lunch, dinner and some free time at your all-inclusive hotel. Distance travelled: 124 mi (200 km)

Day 5 - Cayo Santa María - Santa Clara

You’ll have breakfast and lunch in your resort intersected by some chill-out time at the beach or pool before leaving for Santa Clara. You’ll stop along the way for a tour of one of Cuba’s oldest cities, Remedios, home to fine colonial architecture and a quaint charm. Sitting smack bang in the centre of Cuba, Santa Clara has also played a central role in the country’s rich history. After breakfast at your hotel you’ll set off for the ecovillage of Las Terrazas, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve set in the Sierra del Rosario. You’ll be taken on a panoramic tour of this beautiful area and enjoy some free time to relax by the Rio San Juan. Next, you’ll visit nearby Soroa, known as the “rainbow of Cuba”, and explore its famous orchid gardens (home to over 20,000 plants!). You’ll be treated to a Creole lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Havana for a farewell dinner at your hotel. Distance travelled: 106 mi (170 km) approx.

Day 9 - Havana - Home

Breakfast will be served at your hotel. You’ll have free time to enjoy the city before catching your flight back home.

Melia Cohiba

An iconic hotel, the Melia Cohiba is located just by the Malecon in the central and modern Vedado neighbourhood. Modern and elegant in design, the décor references the famous Cohiba cigars after which the hotel is named. There is an extensive range of diverse dining options available, a variety of cocktail bars, and – of course – a wooden paneled cigar room. Most importantly, the hotel offers an extensive swimming pool on a blissful, tropical terrace. Hostal Colonial Lola

More boutique hotel than guesthouse, this 19th-century property combines colonial charm with modern facilities (including some of the best air-conditioning in town!). Centred around a large flower-filled courtyard, each of the nine guestrooms features a safe box, minibar, television and hair-dryer as well as an ensuite bathroom with shower. The on-site restaurant serves spectacular Cuban cuisine - the lobster comes highly recommended! 

Playa Cayo Santa Maria
