It’s 2020 and a great year to fly from the UK to Cuba. From June 9th 2020 Virgin Atlantic will be operating direct flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and Havana (HAV). These will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer season. The timetable is:
- London Heathrow 1235 - Havana 1740
- Havana 1955 - London Heathrow 1010
This is fantastic news for most travellers, as Heathrow is the preferred airport choice for many people in London and the surrounding area. Why? Heathrow is very quick and easy to get to. It is on the London Underground tube network, conveniently situated on the Piccadilly Line. The Heathrow Express train runs there from Paddington in less than 20 minutes, whilst other local trains stop there too. For those who prefer using taxis, cars and buses, Heathrow is only 13 miles from the centre of London.
Virgin Atlantic’s new London Heathrow-Havana timetable is also very beneficial for British travellers to Cuba as, unlike last year’s timetable, travellers won’t be required to get up ridiculously early. Flying from Heathrow at 1235pm is ideal, as you can get a refreshing sleep the night before, softening the impact of any jet-lag, whilst also arriving in Havana at a reasonable hour to dump your bags and have an evening stroll in the city. Also, the return journey from Havana to Heathrow allows you to sleep on the flight and wake up in London just after the rush hour has died down.
Another thing worth noting about Virgin Atlantic’s decision to use London Heathrow is that, as the UK’s largest airport, it is also the best stocked with goods and services before you depart. This means there are multiple shops where you can make last minute purchases for your Cuba trip. These could include handy necessities that you forgot to pack before you got to the airport, such as sun cream and travel adapters, or cute gifts to give to friends you make during your visit.
